Description
Between Philosophy, Mysticism, and Magic: A Critical Edition of Occult Writings of and Attributed to Shihāb al-Dīn al-Suhrawardī is a doctoral dissertation by Łukasz Piątak, completed at Warsaw University in 2019. This scholarly work offers a critical edition of Suhrawardī's occult writings, including texts attributed to him, with a focus on the treatise Al-Wāridāt wa’l-Taqdīsāt ("Divine Inspirations and Sanctifications"). Piątak examines the authenticity of these works and explores their significance within Suhrawardī's Illuminationist philosophy, shedding light on the integration of philosophical discourse, mystical experience, and esoteric practices in Suhrawardī's thought. This dissertation contributes to a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between philosophy, mysticism, and magic in Islamic intellectual history.
