In 1596, Sir John Harington, godson of Queen Elizabeth I, invented something we all take for granted today - the first flushing toilet. He called it \"Ajax.\"
This wasn\'t your basic commode. Ajax featured an innovative design with a pan, leather-faced valve, levers, weights, and a cistern that actually flushed waste away. Harington installed one in Richmond Palace for the Queen herself.
Despite its royal approval, Ajax didn\'t catch on quickly. The high cost and lack of proper plumbing infrastructure meant that for centuries after, most people still relied on chamber pots. But Harington\'s revolutionary design laid the foundation for the modern flush toilet.
Harington even wrote a book about his invention called \"A New Discourse upon a Stale Subject: The Metamorphosis of Ajax,\" proving that toilet humor has truly stood the test of time
