Description
Youths by Leo Tolstoy is the third and final installation in Tolstoy's semi-autobiography trilogy, which follows Childhood and Boyhood. This novel is about transitional changes through adolescence into early adulthood in the life of Nikolai, now a young man who must face the complexities of maturity. Nikolai goes through university years into the beginnings of responsibilities and uncertainties of adulthood and grapples with his identity concerning love, career, and personal choice. This story deals with romance, the battles of self with society's dictates, and one's evolving sense of identity. Tolstoy eloquently goes into the turmoil of emotions and ambitions found in youth, including the growth of this character in learning the world and his place in it. In Nikolai's growth, Tolstoy recorded the sensitivity of self-discovery, soul-searching for meaning, and dealing with challenges that came with growing up in a poignantly reflective track into adulthood.
