The Mutant Generation
In a vast starship drifting through the endless darkness of space, a new generation was growing. They were the children of the voyage—born aboard Masibis, a massive ship carrying thousands of people across the galaxy in search of a new home. Their parents had been normal, just like those on Earth. But these children? They were different.
The changes started small. A boy named River could hear whispers through walls. A girl named AC could see glowing patterns in the air. Others began to move objects without touching them or sense emotions before a word was spoken.
At first, the adults ignored it, dismissing it as imagination. But as the abilities grew stronger, fear crept in.
One evening, River sat with AC in the viewing dome, staring at the vast ocean of stars outside.
\"Do you think we\'re... human?\" River asked quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.
AC tilted her head, her bright eyes reflecting the distant glow of a dying star. \"Of course, we are. Just... different. My mom says it\'s the ship. That deep space is changing us.\"
River shivered. \"I heard the captain talking. They\'re scared of us.\"
AC turned to him, alarmed. \"Why?\"
River hesitated. \"Because they don’t understand us. They think we\'re dangerous.\"
AC clenched her fists. \"That\'s not fair! We didn’t ask for this.\"
The next morning, the ship\'s alarm blared. A message echoed through every corridor.
\"All children born aboard Masibis must report to the medical bay for evaluation.\"
River and AC exchanged worried glances.
\"Do you think they’ll hurt us?\" AC whispered.
River shook his head. \"I don’t know. But I don’t trust them.\"
They hurried to find the others—Jax, who could move objects with a flick of his hand; Elara, who could sense when people were lying; and Orion, the youngest, who could heal small wounds just by touching them.
\"We can’t let them lock us up,\" Jax said, pacing in their secret hideout near the ship’s hydroponic gardens.
\"But what if they help us?\" Elara countered. \"What if something is wrong with us?\"
River looked at them, his expression firm. \"We need to be ready. If they try to control us, we run.\"
Before they could act, the ship shook violently. A deep, guttural hum filled the corridors.
\"What was that?\" AC gasped.
A voice crackled over the ship’s intercom. \"Intruder alert. Unknown vessel detected.\"
River ran to the nearest window. Outside, a massive alien ship loomed over Masibis. It was black and spiked, like a living creature made of metal. Strange glowing symbols pulsed across its hull.
Then, the attack began.
The alien ship fired beams of green energy, striking Masibis. Alarms blared. The lights flickered. People screamed.
A deep, rasping voice echoed through the speakers. \"Surrender your vessel. Your journey ends here.\"
River’s blood ran cold. \"They\'re going to take the ship.\"
Jax clenched his fists. \"Not if we stop them.\"
AC nodded. \"We have to fight.\"
Elara looked at them, fear in her eyes. \"How? We’re just kids!\"
Orion touched her shoulder. \"No, we’re more than that.\"
The alien invaders boarded the ship. They were tall, armored beings with four glowing eyes and razor-sharp claws. They moved fast, tearing through the halls like hunters searching for prey.
River and the others ran to the main deck, where soldiers were trying to hold them back. But the weapons of Masibis were weak. The aliens pushed forward, unstoppable.
\"We have to help!\" River shouted.
Jax raised his hand. A pile of metal crates lifted into the air and launched at the aliens, knocking them down.
AC closed her eyes, and the lights flickered wildly. The control panels sparked, sending electrical surges through the invaders.
Elara pointed at a sneaky alien trying to flank them. \"That one is lying! It’s not here to negotiate!\"
Orion pressed his hands against a wounded soldier’s chest. The burns on his skin faded as Orion’s energy healed him.
The adults watched in shock.
\"They’re... saving us,\" the captain muttered.
The battle raged on. The children worked together, using their powers to fight back. River reached out with his mind and heard the aliens’ thoughts.
They fear us.
A plan formed in his head. He turned to his friends. \"We can push them back. Together!\"
They focused all their power, channeling it through the ship itself. The walls trembled. The air hummed. The aliens froze as an invisible force pressed against them, shoving them back toward their ship.
The lead invader roared.
River stepped forward, his eyes glowing. \"Leave. Now.\"
With one final blast of energy, the children sent the aliens flying back into their ship. The doors sealed shut, and the enemy vessel retreated into the dark void of space.
A stunned silence filled Masibis.
The crew stared at the children in awe.
The captain stepped forward. \"You saved us.\"
River met his gaze. \"We were born in space. This is our home too.\"
Dr. Han nodded. \"I was wrong to fear you. You’re not a danger. You’re our greatest hope.\"
A cheer erupted through the ship. The children were no longer outcasts. They were heroes.
Later that night, as they stood once again in the viewing dome, AC sighed. \"Do you think they’ll come back?\"
River stared into the endless stars. \"Maybe. But next time, we’ll be ready.\"
Jax smirked. \"Next time, we’ll show them why we’re the protectors of Masibis.\"
As the ship continued its journey, the mutant children stood together, watching over their people, ready for whatever the universe would bring.
They were no longer just children.
They were the defenders of the human race.
