Is our society not moving towards a place where, in order to stay relevant, one must practically leave the planet and then return in an sort of orgasmic state of re-connection, kiss the ground, and so on? This is self-defeating as it promotes connection through disconnection. (In order to be connected to the planet, one must leave it.) There is a second “Ark in Space” reading we can do. Assuming billionaires – at the first signs of worldwide disaster – will leave the planet in private spaceships and therefore preserve “the best of us”, does sending actors and singers into space not set a bad precedent? Meaning, “When the apocalypse comes, we need to save the RZA, Katy Perry, William Shatner, and so on”. Surely Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk would benefit from launching teachers, nurses, doctors, and community heroes into space? Meaning, “When the apocalypse comes, we need to save teachers, nurses, and so on”.
